Amol Navathe, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Medical Ethics and Health Policy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and Professor of Healthcare Management and Economics at the Wharton School. He is a practicing internal medicine physician and health economist. His research includes work on Medicare alternative payment models and how Medicare payment influences provider behavior and beneficiary outcomes, and program spending. He served on MedPAC from 2019 through 2022 as a commissioner and from 2022 through 2025 as Vice Chair. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the SCAN Group and the Hawaii Medical Services Association, both of which offer Medicare Advantage plans, and co-founded the health care technology companies Embedded Healthcare and Otter Health. Dr. Navathe received his Ph.D. in Health Care Management and Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
