The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) is a small, nonpartisan federal agency that advises the U.S. Congress on Medicare payments to health care providers and health plans, and issues affecting access to and quality of care received by Medicare beneficiaries. MedPAC publishes its recommendations and supporting analyses in two annual reports to the Congress and in other reports periodically mandated by the Congress. MedPAC also produces a Data Book and a Payment Basics Series each year and routinely submits written comments on proposed Medicare rules released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

MedPAC seeks an administrative and production assistant to provide support to the Deputy Director and the Production Manager.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support the publication process, including developing publication schedules, coordinating with editors, and maintaining and updating reference database
  • Assist with word processing, including formatting, proofreading, and grammatical editing
  • Assist with updating MedPAC’s website
  • Assist with planning and scheduling of monthly Commission meetings
  • Support meeting logistics, including assembling and distributing briefing materials, and assisting with set-up of in-person and virtual event functions
  • Some management of professional scheduling, including developing agendas, travel arrangements, and other logistics
  • Manage phone calls and requests for information; greet and escort guests to the suite
  • Manage inventory and order office supplies; handle mail collection and distribution
  • Provide other administrative support, as needed, to the Deputy Director and Production Manager

The successful candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, public affairs, public policy, or related fields OR a high school diploma with 2-3 years’ experience in an administrative role reporting directly to upper management
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects at once
  • The ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • A sense of initiative, willingness to suggest improvements or develop solutions to challenges and processes, and ability to follow-through on projects to successful completion
  • Exceptional professional judgment and discretion and be able to exercise a strict level of confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel and other office productivity tools, with aptitude to learn new software and systems. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus, but not required.
